NYFW: Flying Solo

Fashion Week

Magic happens right off the runway when over a hundred looks are being presented by over 95 talented designers. This NYFW season, Flying Solo produced a fashion show on Pier 59 presenting looks from designers like Monosuit, Adi Yair, Ricardo Seco, Gavea, Jo Kilda, Victoria Hayes and Weannabe, just to name a few.

I paid particular notice to local Singaporean designers K.Blu and Jo Kilda as the models donned their beautiful pieces and strutted down the runway. Jo Kilda showcased a beautifully tailored sequinned blazers and pants; pleated gowns and jumpsuits and my favourite was a black silk cape. K.Blu showcased gorgeous coral and blue swimsuits donned with flowing scarfs, maxi dresses and kaftans. I was beaming with so much local pride.

Thanks for having me, Flying Solo! It was without a doubt a great show!

Right up the streets of West Broadway resides Flying Solo, a fashion cooperative that runs on a cooperative model. What these means for the designers is that they share a store and office space, while getting to work with other designers and exchange creative input.

Coming from a small country like ours, it’s definitely not easy to make it to the runway. Hence, I paid particular notice to local Singaporean designers K.Blu and Jo Kilda as the models donned their beautiful pieces and strutted down the runway. That’s 2 out of 41 clothing designers showcasing in New York City! I was beaming with so much local pride.

From backstage madness to absolute poise, elegance and boldness on the runway. This show was such a spectacle. Once again, biggest congrats to my friends at K.blu, Jo Kilda and all the designers that put in so much for this show!
