Portrait Roma

Italy

A wonderful oasis in the middle of frenzy, you find this small boutique hotel in Rome, a part of the Ferragamo family. Very well situated above the Salvatore Ferragamo flagship store, right smack in the middle of the high fashion street of Via Condotti, literally steps away from the newly restored Spanish steps, this location could not be any more perfect if you’re looking to be housed in the middle of the city’s chaos, but feel far removed from it, with a private space to be your home away from home.

Portrait Roma only houses 14 exclusive studios and suites through a very discrete entrance– a lack of a lobby and doorway but only by a video camera doorbell and a door man/concierge to greet you at the entrance when you ring the bell. It is for a stylish traveler looking for exclusivity and privacy.

The rooms are extremely sleek and contemporary in design. When you look at it, you think of classic Italian fashion with no frills marrying Hollywood glamour, just like Salvatore Ferragamo, the man himself. Playing off of his signature style with dashes of color, warm wood and leather tones, and a ton of photographs, paintings and biographies, and of course portraits throughout the room, stairway and lobby, bring it all together.

Not a single detail is overlooked– From a pillow menu and type of bed sheets (cotton or linen) to select from, to the temperature of your room, to your favourite kind of music for turn down in the evening, to a very well dressed mini bar, mid-day cocktails, aperitifs at sunset, an amazing breakfast spread in the gorgeous rooftop terrace, top notch service that accommodates to every single request and a rooftop patio with unrivalled views.

The bathrooms are outfitted with Salvatore Ferragamo Tuscan Soul toiletries (including eye cream, face cream and lip balm, much welcomed products especially after a day of traveling) and the marble bathrooms are well lit and spacious – they type of bathroom that you look forward to getting ready for the day in.

Mind you, they also have an iPad for guests to take along throughout their stay– with 4G connection, a catalog of files comprising restaurant recommendations and a ton of other information that you need to explore the city. I found the best gelato in town from their list and managed to make reservations at one of their highly recommended restaurants for dinner.
There is also a Skype account installed in the iPad, should you get lost or need to reach the front desk for ANY reason or ANY assistance at ANY time of your stay in Rome. Now, that is really something.

My stint at Portrait Roma was extremely comfortable, personalised and intimate yet exquisite. As part of the Lungarno Collection, a group of boutique hotels owned by Ferragmo Fashion, it surely did not disappoint and left us with lasting memories.
