The Only Lip Colours You Need For Summer

Make up

We are right in the midst of summer and it’s time to swop out that wardrobe for these trendy colours. By wardrobe, I really mean lip wardrobe.

Tom Ford Ultra Shine Lip Gloss in Tawny Pink

Anyone who’s a beauty fanatic would know how most Korean women love the dewy look. Yes the Korean dewy look a.k.a Glass Skin Look is actually a thing, more on that another time. The beauty trend is all about that subtle glow on your skin, as if light is radiating out. More recently, obsession with the trend has moved from the skin to the lips. We’ve been seeing more and more pictures of lips lathered in gloss, giving that pucker a juicy look, popping up on the internet. And with Rihanna (ctrl c + ctrl v)-ing the look on all the models for Fenty’s launch earlier in the year, we knew the Glass Skin Look would be here to stay for summer. Enter Tom Ford’s Ultra Shine Lip Gloss in the perfect shade. The formula is highly pigmented, very creamy and leaves a nice glossy sheen. Go for a lighter colour to keep your look au naturel. What are you waiting for? Gloss away!

Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Matte Liquid Lip in 12 Controversial
Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour in Shade So Grand

When Estee Lauder launched this Matte Liquid Lip, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on and try it. The bold colour payoff and matte finish would dupe anyone into thinking you used a lipstick. Each shade comes in a finish that suits it best, and my pick for a formal occasion would be the matte stain. Although matte, the formula is really moisturising and does not run up through the crevices of my lips. The applicator also glides effortlessly and you can be assured of a precise application. The best part is that it is non-staining, so you can remove it entirely and change up (or down) the colour without having your lips stained red.

The Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour provides a very beautiful liquid-seude finish that is extremely long-lasting. If you’re looking for a single application that can last you day to night, this is your go-to liquid lip. However, I find that it stains the lips and it is a little more drying on the lips as compared to the Estee Lauder one, so you definitely need a good lip moisturiser at hand, and a great make up remover too!

Tom Ford Lip Color in Contempt

When we hear formal events, we immediately think of the words classy and glamourous. You’d want a product that will last you throughout the night and boasts an elegant shade. But if you’re not confident in pulling off a red lip then go for a slightly muted but still modern tone. That is the Tom Ford Lip Color in Contempt. Tom Ford is the epitome of the modern look and their lip line brings out the best dimensions of the Tom Ford woman – a fitting image for a formal occasion. The texture is ultra creamy and glides seamlessly onto lips, thanks to chamomilla flower oil and Brazilian murumuru butter, but will stay put for ages even as you eat and drink. It is a gorgeous muted vermillion, highly pigmented, with an elegant pearl finish. You don’t need fancy makeup to look your best, keep it simple with a little black dress, a dash of Contempt, and you’ll be turning heads all night.

Lancome L’absolu Rouge in Frenetique

Slap on Lancome’s jazzy orange and you’re good to go, the quickest and easiest way to enliven your ensemble! This tube of amazing goodness will provide a vivid satiny colour and boost those dry lips that have been neglected all week with some moisture. It’s enriched with Vitamin E, so the more you wear it, the better your lips get. Bid chapped lips goodbye and snag all the attention on your night out.

Dior Addict Lip Glow in Raspberry

If there were a law enacted that mandates only 1 lip product may be owned at a single time, this would be it. This lipstick, or more like lip balm, has become a cult beauty product all thanks to its amazing formulation. Based on your lips’ pH levels, the colour will come off differently yet at the same time still looking like you were too lazy to put on lipstick this morning. The balm also contains cranberry oil and wild mango butter, ensuring a smooth glide and delivers moisture to your lips. According to Dior, one tube is sold every three seconds. By the time you finished reading the previous sentence, another two of them has flown off the shelves. For an everyday kind of look, this amazing little tube will take you distances. You’d be out of your mind if you said no to this MLBB (my lips but better) lipstick!

Lancome L’absolu Lacquer in shade 216

5.27. 5.28. 5.29. Alas it’s 5.30! The last few minutes before the end of the intense work week is the most excruciating wait. Especially when your Friday night plans involve meeting your closest girlfriends and a couple of drinks. My pick is this lip lacquer by Lancome. The formula is so lightweight and thin that it almost feels like your own lips. The colour is pretty buildable, and you can choose to go full on intense or just a sheer natural look with just 1 product. To add on, it is pretty hydrating on the lips!

You would have noticed that my criteria for lip products is a moisturising formula, and I cannot emphasise how important this factor is in transforming your lips from drab to fab. Leave me a comment down below and let me know what you look for in a lip product!

In lieu of National Lip Day, I will be giving away a lipstick (from brands including: Dior, Estee Lauder, Lancome, Fresh, MAC, Max Factor) to 10 of you guys who are on my mailing list! I’ll be picking them at random on the 1st of August, so if you’re not signed up yet, please do so now!

I hope you enjoyed this post and be inspired when you’re lipstick shopping next time. Till the next post x
