10AM: Arrived in Lucerne
Enroute to my dear friend Jessicacindy’s wedding destination in Gstaad, we decided to plan a short pit-stop in Lucerne. Boasting a beautiful lakeside setting surrounded with a breath-taking mountainous panorama, this compact city is described by some as one of the most scenic cities in Switzerland. We only had 24 hours in this picturesque town and here’s what we got up to!
12PM: Settling in for lunch
Following our Airbnb host’s recommendation, we had lunch at Ristorante Mamma Leone. As it’s name suggests, it’s an traditional italian diner. I never say no to pasta in Europe and was not disappointted. Pasta was al dante and the sauce was sublime. Definitely no regretti with this spaghetti!
1PM: Shopping along the streets + buying chocolates
It would be impossible to visit Switzerland and not come home with any chocolates. James and I decided to take the day slow with a casual stroll along one of the main shopping streets in Lucerne. We especially loved the quaint boutiques selling traditional swiss handicrafts and the chocolatiers that sold an amazing assortment of chocolate. I couldn’t resist buying home some as souvenirs for my family and friends!
2PM: Visiting Jesuit Church
The Jesuit Church is the first largest baroque church to be built in Switzerland north of Alps bank of the Reuss River. The unchanged grand architecture, and the iconic pink and white interior was a sight to behold.
4PM: Enjoyed a stroll along the river side with James
For some people, having only 24 hours in a city would mean ticking off a check list of attractions and retail agendas, in order to “make the most of” a trip. For James and I, we make it a point to spend time to enjoy each other’s company and soak in a destination’s atmosphere and beautiful scenery, uninhibited by an objective or shopping list.
5PM: Cheese Fondue Dinner @ Hotel Des Alpes
We indulged in a traditional cheese fondue for the nth time this trip. Perfect for warming our bodies amidst the cold winter weather.
9AM: Early breakfast at Bistro Krienbruggli
We had an early breakfast to kick start our day at Bistro Krienbruggli before we boarded the train to our next destination! Lovely lucerne is definitely on our list of destinations to re-visit! <3
