Canggu is an up and coming area with an abundance of modern villas, full-fledged resorts, delicious cafes, beach clubs and an array of boutiques and shops. Also known to be Bali’s expatriate neighbourhood and surfing area, she is equally famous for her black-sand beaches and green paddy fields. It is also roughly a 30-40 minute walk from Seminyak along the coastal line. Comparably, Canggu is much less crowded than Seminyak and we truly appreciated the comparative serenity.
Canggu is definitely one of the best and most hip places to be, when you’re in Bali! We are so excited to share with you our favourite cafes that we’ve visited and highly recommend!

Watching some animal cruelty videos lately have planted an idea in our minds to start going Vegan. Honestly, we’ve been making an effort to opt for non-diaryp products lately and have been on the look out for good vegan alternatives. We were thrilled to find KYND Community, which serves up mouth-watering plant based foods. “Veggies are boring” said no one ever. Seriously though, you wouldn’t be able to tell that their food contained only plants. They look so good and taste even better!
Many come here for the famous insta-worthy pink wall photo, but on top of getting your IG worthy photo, I say, you MUST TRY their paradise pancakes, ASPEY (smashed avo, coconut feta, popped capers, tomato, basil and lemon. YUM), ASIAN PERSUASION (a delicious salad bowl with green tea soba noodles, toufu & more), and smoothies!
I mean it when I say Luigi’s Hot Pizza is not your typical pizza haunt. They’re only open for dinner till late and its open-air and chill setting makes for a really great place to hangout with your friends! Their menu is also pretty fuss-free, with numbers in place of fancy titles for the items. Out of the three pizzas that we got, I’d have to say that P11 (wood roasted chicken, peperonata, fior di latte) was the best. Roasting chicken with wood gives the meat a certain smokiness and makes it more flavourful. It is also a work of art and rare to find wood roasted chicken! We also got the P6 (salami, chilli, onion, potato, fior di latte, tomato) which Cheryl, who’s a salami fan, absolutely loved. Again, we tried to get some greens into our meal and opted for S1 (roasted pumpkin, spinach, fior di latte, parmesan), which provided a nice contrast from all the carbs we were eating.
You know what they say – we all have separate stomachs for desserts. We heard that the donuts here were different from the usual kinds so we had to try it. Made with pizza dough, the donuts were rather chewy. A (not overly) sweet treat for all that rushing around!

Milk and Madu translates to Milk and Honey, and that’s the spirit of the restaurant — food has to be good, fresh and natural. The restaurant uses local produce in every dish, and you can be assured that they will be nutritious! Keeping up with our healthy eating efforts, we headed over to the Milk and Madu pop up, which is just a stone’s throw away from its premises currently undergoing renovation. The resort vibes of the pop up drew us in immediately and we found ourselves quickly settling down at the outdoor area filled with luscious greens. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and we certainly got a great start! We went for the house specialties – The Madu and The Atlantic, they didn’t disappoint! Their super smoothies are also really great and nourishing.
P.s/ Brunch is served all day, so you don’t have to worry if you’d prefer to get up a bit later.
Fishbone Local serves, well, fish. It is a mere 50 metres away from the edge of the Indian ocean, and what can be a better option than seafood? All of their dishes are prepared with only the freshest catch and using simple techniques. Fishbone Local prides themselves as a sustainable restaurant – their catches are ethically and sustainably sourced. Even the decor and furniture are made from recycled materials, which explains its raw and minimalistic space.
From the menu, we got the Pan Seared Barramundi with Sambal Matah, Chimichurri Spiced Tuna Loin, Chargrilled Swordfish Skewer. It’s hard to choose which one’s our favourite when every single dish is a complete package of taste of quality. One dish that stood out though, was the Spicy Prawn Toasts – they were nothing like we have ever tried before. The Potato Scallops and Beer Battered Fish also transported us back to Perth. Mmmmm we left the restaurant with very (very very) satisfied tummies.
This new cafe is a true gem. I’d highly highly recommend it for the quality food, relaxing ambiance and wonderful service!
When in Indonesia, of course one’s got to have one Indonesian meal. First glance at the geometric prints on the walls and floors, you probably wouldn’t be able to tell that they served Indonesian food. But take a closer look, and you can see how the Balinese elements of bamboo and rattan add a local touch to the decor. In the day, guests can experience an orchestra of local flavours and go wild with selecting their little sides. When dinner time comes around, guests can savour well-known dishes such as Kare Sari Laut or Rendang Sapi, which were just what we got!
We were craving so badly for some good local food with a nice ambiance and this place was it!
While the dishes are a little bit pricier compared to other local restaurants, the plates were bigger as well and were perfect for sharing. We really enjoyed the good contrast of Indonesian flavours after all the cafe-hopping!
