Our wedding luncheon was as bright and colourful as it was joyful. We decided to go for a bohemian-rustic travel inspired theme that was bursting with bright colours like red, pink and orange-yellow from the blooms we got from CC Lee Florist. It was accented with low-hanging fairy lights from Midnight Sparks which were hung across the venue’s roof bringing down the ceiling height making the place cosier, as well as oversized balloons from Looney Bloons that in turn created an uplifting yet warm and cosy atmosphere. Our stage backdrop was customised entirely and painstaking hand painted by our very talented stylist and friend, Phillane from Med Karlek. She worked with Scene Stealer, who are specialised in events photo booths and backdrops, to bring all her creative ideas to life and it was nothing short of amazing.

Our guest registration table was bustling with life and personal touch like a custom magazine created for us by Novel Journal, which is now placed as a coffee-table book in our living room. The magazine shares our journey as a couple, our love story, our love languages and our five-year plan for the future. We also had a newsletter version of which, that was left around for our family and friends to take home with them. We wanted something that was personal so it’d allow us to get intimate with our family and friends even before our arrival. We got some table accessories like gold polka-dotted vases, signing pens and our guest book from Kate Spade New York, which added a playful and eclectic twist to the ambiance. I’ve had my eyes on Kate Spade’s wedding accessories since years back when I visited their flagship store in New York and I couldn’t be happier to have them incorporated as a part of my big day.

We also added travel-themed decor ranging from a brand new luggage from which we got for our upcoming travels, alongside photographs of all the trips we’ve done together to date. We included instax prints of some photos taken during the morning itself so our friends and family could take a peek at what went on behind-the-scenes.

In the garden area, we hung photos of our childhood, including family photos to document our fond memories of our growing up years. We also had a live photo booth courtesy of Scene Stealer, a juice bar serving fresh cold-pressed juices from HIC Juice and delicious dark chocolate ice cream from The Dark Gallery, as well as a cocktail bar serving a Botanist gin. This was to keep our guests refreshed and busy while we prepped for the march in.

It was quite an informal occasion with little that was injected into the programme. Jemma, our dearest emcee and close friend, did a fabulous job, taking the lead and being spontaneous and very much entertaining the guests. We had a surprise song dedication from my siblings (I love their guts!) and heartfelt speeches from my sweetheart brother, my dearest bridesmaid, Natalie Sayson, and James’ “bro” and groomsmen, Buns.

In the interim, Vocalise masterfully filled the air with music from their very talented band that played love songs ranging from classics to more modern pieces. We thoroughly enjoyed the amazing repertoire of their live music and song dedications from our friends.

Lunch was catered by Megu Weddings which prepared an amazing spread. We showcased our travel theme through live stations each with different cuisines from our favourite travel destinations. For example, we had counters serving Japanese food like aburi sushi, cold soba and miso soup- some of James’ personal favourites. We had a European station with a chef that prepared freshly cooked pasta. That was my favourite! Not to forget, the local feast which included many favourite items like Kueh Pie Tie, Chicken Rice Balls and the highly raved about Laksa.
Our family and friends sung endless praises about the variety and quality of food, as well as the beautiful dessert buffet table styling, which was completely wiped out by the end of the afternoon!

We ended the celebration with a cake-cutting ceremony at the dessert table. The cake was very tastefully done by Winifred Kriste Cake, using sugar flowers that fit perfectly to our overall rustic theme. The cake did not only look perfect but it tasted great. Find out more about the flavours of the cake we picked and our cake tasting session here.

I chose a simple, timeless and classic strapless Vera Wang wedding gown from Tiara Bridal, with a gorgeous accent belt, paired with a pair of Kate Spade heels. It was a change out of my church wedding gown, bespoked by Amanda Lee and lace-up heels from Gianvitto Rossi. Jyue Huey, my ever trusty make up and hair artist, added some flowers to my low side pony tail and kept my face clean and fresh with a subtle lip colour.

James switched to a more fun and laid back look from his formal tuxedo which he wore during the morning’s ceremony. At lunch, he wore a checkered navy blue jackets paired with a patterned tie from Benjamin Baker that well-suited the afternoon’s fun and joyful vibes.

I had my bridesmaids complement me in their fun and eye-catching mini dresses made bespoke by Juillet, paired with the prettiest Kate Spade x Keds Sneakers. I loved the dark lips and gorgeous braids that Jyue Huey did on them! They each looked so stunning! James’ groomsmen dressed down from the church ceremony too, with suspenders and a bow tie. which was deliberately matching to the colour of my bridesmaid dresses.

Phillane and Clare did a phenomenal job in helping us create a cohesive look through the space and it made the entire luncheon feel like a lively, casual, countryside intimate gathering.

A big thank you to Yang and team from Substance film for capturing both our joy and energy from this eventful morning and to Melvin, Renee, and the rest of the Multifolds team for all the beautiful photos for us to keep.
You guys make such an A-team, my heart is forever grateful!
